Writer. Father. Athlete. Traveler. Editor. Outdoorsman. Find out more about Dan here.
Dan began his writing career as a reporter (and later an editor) at weekly newspapers outside of Boston, where he covered everything from murders to zoning board meetings. In 2000, he became the associate editor for the recreational boating magazine Offshore, where he honed his descriptive, engaging writing style. He left Offshore in 2003 to raise his newborn daughter (and, later, his son) and to pursue a freelance career.
Besides writing and his family, Dan is passionate about the outdoors. He enjoys hiking and kayaking, and publishes a website devoted to the Northeast outdoors, www.NortheastExplorer.com.
Dan also has a passion for travel and adventure. He has visited such places as Egypt, Vietnam and the Czech Republic. He also has a love for endurance and obstacle racing. He has completed multiple long-distance trail races, including the 2019 Peak 100, a grueling 100-mile trail race held in Vermont. He has completed several events of 100K or longer, and has participated in several of the world’s hardest obstacle races, including completing a Spartan Ultra Beast and the 24-hour obstacle race the World’s Toughest Mudder four times.
